Camp Daikon 2025 – Thank You!

Saturday, July 12 & Sunday, July 13, 2025 | 10am – 4pm both days

Camp Daikon is a two-day retreat hosted by Nikkei Uprising and JACL Chicago with workshops on activism and identity. We are pleased to report that our 2025 Camp Daikon program was a success!

On Day One, we explored our unique personal identities and messages we’ve been given about what it means to be Japanese and American. On Day Two, we dove into topics of incarceration/reparations, imperialism and immigration, through the lens of how the Japanese American community has been or can be a “wedge” or a “bridge” on these issues. Organizations including Advancing Justice-Chicago, Chicago 2 Okinawa, Malaya, PUSO, and CAARPR also joined us to table on Day Two. Through stories, art, games, and community building activities, we examined historical and cultural forces that impact our community and influence the world around us.
