Day of Remembrance: Arts x Activism Gallery and Workshop

February 16 @ 12:15 pm - 1:15 pm

Free

In this interactive event, peruse an art gallery and hear firsthand from young Japanese Americans in Chicago who have combined identity-based creative projects with community activism.

We’ll also talk about ways attendees can jumpstart their own artistic projects and get involved in advocacy work to protect the rights and freedoms of all.
Snacks and origami paper will be provided.

This event is hosted by JACL Chicago’s Kansha Project Alumni Leadership Board, JACL Chicago’s Next Generation Nikkei, and the Nikkei Creative Collective as a part of the 2020 Day of Remembrance. Each year, Chicago’s Japanese American community comes together to remember President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s signing of Executive Order 9066, which led to the incarceration of some 120,000 Japanese Americans during World War II.
