Day of Rememberance

October 1, 2017 @ 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Every year, the Japanese American community in the Chicago area comes together to commemorate the signing of Executive Order 9066. Signed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on February 19, 1942, Executive Order 9066 gave the United States army the authority to remove civilians from the military zones of Washington, Oregon, and California. This led to the removal and internment of some 120,000 Americans of Japanese ancestry living in those areas.

JACL Chicago sponsors Day of Remembrance along with the Chicago Japanese American Council, the Chicago Japanese American Historical Society, the Japanese American Service Committee, and the Japanese Mutual Aid Society of Chicago.
